Final Thesis Proposal (revised)

Thesis Proposal (original)

Final Thesis Proposal

The original proposal contains mechanical depth and two breadths design alternatives. It also includes the schedule for AE 482W course for the Spring semester. Mechanical Depths included three alternatives such as implementing Enthalpy Wheel, Displacement Ventilation and Demand Control Ventilation. After revision with an adviser, it was concluded that Dedicated Outside Air System should be considered instead of Enthalpy Wheel for cost savings.

Schedule for the semester was also updated. These updated are summarized in the Final thesis proposal on the left.

BREADTHS

Lighting

The Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts utilizes more electric energy than compared with the average 100, 000 SF similar building according to the results of Technical Report 3. Lighting load was calculated to be 1,105 MWh of the total 2,013 MWh of the total Electricity consumption. The proposed breadth will include investigation and reevaluation of lighting fixtures and equipment in order to save on energy. The majority lighting fixtures installed in the project are fluorescent light fixtures. Implementing LED fixtures will decrease the overall loads. Furthermore, daylight harvest system in the lobby spaces are considered. It is projected that enhancing lighting system will aid in reducing overall HVAC cooling loads.

Acoustics

The Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts has multiple acoustically sensitive spaces such as worship center, recital halls, practice rooms and Black Box Theater. Acoustics plays a vital role in the overall quality of the learning environment. The proposed breadth will include the impact of the recommended HVAC system on speech intelligibility and music quality. An analysis of the structure borne sound of the chillers will also be considered. Mezzanine level mechanical room is located above the Parmer Hall. The effects of RTAHs and mechanical room on the spaces below will be also considered and analyzed. Wall STC’s will be analyzed and selected based off the sound power levels created by the new mechanical equipment.
